Tours and activities on Skadar Lake
Skadar Lake is the largest lake in the Balkans and a national park. Boat tours from Virpazar and Rijeka Crnojevića take you to the monasteries (Vranjina, Beška, Kom), floating villages and bird reserves. Crmnica, around the lake, is Montenegro's main wine region — Vranac, Krstač and Žižak.
Boat tours run year-round but at full capacity from May to October. Wine tours and tastings are available all year with advance notice. It's an ideal day trip from Bar, Budva or Podgorica.

Frequently asked questions
Which harbour do the boat tours leave from?
Most departures are from Virpazar (a shorter tour, 2–3h, focused on Beška/Kom Monastery). Rijeka Crnojevića has an easier route along a winding river and Karuč — often the most photogenic tour.
Do boat tours include entry to the monasteries?
Yes, entry to Beška and Kom monasteries is free during opening hours, and the guide provides historical context. Vranjina Monastery is also reachable by land.
How much does a wine tour in Crmnica cost?
Typically €30–60 per person, depending on the number of wineries (1–3) and whether lunch is included. Larger groups get a better per-person price.
Can I visit Skadar Lake in winter?
Yes. Boat tours run off-season with advance notice (fewer departures, more flexible). Early spring (April–May) is the most beautiful, when the water lilies bloom and the greenery is intense.
How do I combine a boat tour and a winery in one day?
Most organized tours combine both — a 2–3h boat trip + a winery visit + lunch. The typical format is a day tour from Budva or Podgorica, around 8 hours.
