A scenically striking lake in the mountain setting of the Grahovo area, ideal for recreation and photography.

Grahovo Lake

About the site

Grahovo Lake sits in the Grahovo field, at an altitude of about 780 meters, surrounded by the Orjen massif and the karst plateau of Bijela Gora. Although less known than lakes in other parts of Montenegro, it is highly valued locally as a place of calm and a day-trip spot — the surroundings are covered with Mediterranean and mountain vegetation, and the character of the field gives it a distinctive karst landscape.

The area around the lake opens onto the hilly, mountainous zone of the Grahovo region, one of the most historically rich areas in Montenegro. Monuments, churches and a natural park-arboretum lie nearby, which makes the lake an ideal starting point for combined day trips.

The best time to visit is early summer and autumn — the temperatures are pleasant, fishing is active, and the surrounding trails are passable for an easy walk and photography.
