Church of the Holy Saviour at Grahovac
Grahovo, Nikšić municipality
A sacral building raised in 1864 by Prince Nikola I in memory of the victory at the Battle of Grahovac — a spiritual pillar of the Grahovo region's identity.

About the site
The Church of the Holy Saviour stands in the heart of Grahovac, on a site that is doubly important for the Grahovo region — historically, as a key part of the narrative of Montenegrin statehood, and spiritually, as a gathering place for the local community. The church was raised in 1864 by Prince Nikola in memory of the Montenegrin army's victory at the Battle of Grahovac in 1858.
The church's sacral architecture and the quiet space around it make it a place for contemplation, but also a starting point for understanding the wider context of the Grahovo region. On Umac hill in Grahovo there is also a memorial park with a monumental statue of Sava Kovačević — another important memorial layer of this region, dedicated to the People's Liberation War.
A visit to the church is especially rewarding in the early morning or late afternoon hours, when the light reveals the details of the façade and the surrounding landscape.
