Roman Bridge on the Moštanica
Poljica, Nikšić municipality
The oldest preserved bridge in Montenegro — believed to date from the 3rd century, an example of Roman building heritage. Under state protection since 1947.

About the site
The Roman Bridge on the Moštanica river, in the Poljica local community, is one of the oldest preserved bridges in Montenegro — it is believed to date from the 3rd century and is a rare example of Roman building heritage in the country. It has been under state protection since 1947.
Although relatively small, the bridge is significant for several reasons: it shows a Roman building technique that has survived for almost two millennia, and it documents the Roman road that ran from Epidaurum (today's Cavtat), via Risan, Grahovo and Nikšić, all the way to Skadar. Today it is a rare example of the continuity of pre-industrial infrastructure in this region.
A visit to the bridge is usually short, but for those who value archaeological and historical heritage it is an essential stop on a tour of the Nikšić region.
