Slano Lake

Poljica, Nikšić municipality

A man-made reservoir of around 9 km² with an indented shoreline, islands and a rich fish stock.

Slano Lake

About the site

Slano Lake lies in the Poljica local community, west of Nikšić, on a characteristic karst plateau. Although the lake is a man-made reservoir created in the mid-20th century, it has settled naturally into the surrounding landscape — karst, low vegetation and the panorama of the Nikšić plain in the background make it one of the most recognizable settings in this part of Montenegro.

With a surface of about 9 km² and an indented shoreline full of coves, peninsulas and small islands, the lake is a popular day-trip destination during the warmer months. In summer the water is warm enough for swimming, while in spring and autumn the lake draws anglers thanks to its rich fish stock.

The Kapino Polje sports airfield sits nearby, which makes this area interesting for visitors who want to combine the lake, nature and panoramic flights over the Nikšić plain.
