Vuk's Bridge

About the site

Vuk's Bridge, formerly known as Beg's Bridge, is one of the significant remnants of Ottoman-era building heritage in the Nikšić area. For centuries the bridge was an important transit point — it connected Nikšić with Risan in the Bay of Kotor and with Trebinje in Herzegovina.

It was damaged during the attacks on Onogošt in the early 19th century and rebuilt in 1888 on the orders of Prince Nikola. The stone vaults and characteristic arch testify to a building technique preserved over centuries. Today it is a protected cultural monument and a quiet but important link in the story of the transport routes that shaped this region.

The site is ideal for a short stop while touring Nikšić — the bridge lies off the main tourist routes, which gives a visit an authentic, informal character.
